THE COMPANY BESSEY. HISTORY, PRESENT, FUTURE

BESSEY 1889

1889 Max Bessey founds a bright drawing mill in Stuttgart. In 1912, Karl Bessey, his nephew, takes over the management. 1926 Dr. Eugen Mayer becomes chairman of the company. Two years later he marries the widow Erna Bessey.

BESSEY 1936-1944

1936 Dr. Eugen Mayer obtains patents for a novel, quick adjustable screw clamp with malleable cast iron jaws. This starts BESSEY’s production of clamping tools.

Due to the war BESSEY starts 1944 a branch factory in Bietigheim.

BESSEY 1966

1966 Dr. Theodor Mayer takes over the management. Up to his death in 2000 he has an formative influence on the development of the business. The production of bright drawn steel multipies and is extended to include the production of bright drawn steel in stainless qualities.
New patents and further technical developments establish BESSEY as world market leader in clamping technology.

BESSEY 1979

1979 BESSEY extends its product range by acquiring the tinsnip manufacturer Messrs. Diener in Esslingen together with their branch factory in Solingen.
From now on, snips of the ERDI brand are produced and marketed by BESSEY. Since 1994 ERDI snips are produced in Bietigheim.

BESSEY 1983

1983 the bright drawn steel production is concentrated in Bietigheim and the factory in Stuttgart is sold.

BESSEY 1985

In 1985 further sites are acquired in Bietigheim, one of which is the former „Kammgarnspinnerei Bietigheim“, an old spinning mill and historical building now under conservation order. After professional restauration, it houses BESSEY’s tool factory with most modern production facilities.

BESSEY 2003

2003 BESSEY takes over its sales partner in North America, a strategic important market for BESSEY.
